Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 May 2026
EvidenceScope is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. What we collect
- Account data (only if you sign in with Google): name, email, profile picture, Google account ID. Stored in Firebase Authentication.
- Usage data: counts of features used (searches, AI reviews, enrichments), timestamps of first/last use. Stored per-user in Firestore.
- Subscription data: tier (free/pro/academic), Stripe customer ID. Payment details are handled entirely by Stripe — EvidenceScope never sees your card data.
- Feedback: any messages you submit via the Feedback form, with your email if signed in.
- Search history: your last 10 search queries are stored in your browser's localStorage only — never on our servers.
- Anonymous usage stats: aggregate counts (total searches, week-over-week) stored in Apps Script PropertiesService for monitoring platform health.
2. What we do NOT collect
- We do not run analytics like Google Analytics or Plausible.
- We do not use third-party cookies or tracking pixels.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers.
- We do not store the article content from your search results — those are fetched live from PubMed each time.
3. How AI features work
When you click an AI feature button (Translate, Enrich, AI Review, Risk of Bias), the relevant article metadata (title, authors, abstract, journal) is sent to Anthropic Claude via a Google Apps Script proxy. Anthropic processes the request and returns a response. Per Anthropic's API policies, your data is not used to train models.
AI requests are not stored on our servers beyond a usage counter (e.g. "you used 2 of 3 free AI Reviews this month"). The AI output is sent back to your browser only.
4. Third-party services
- Firebase (Google): authentication, user database, feedback storage. Subject to Firebase Privacy Policy.
- Stripe: payment processing. Subject to Stripe Privacy Policy.
- Anthropic Claude: AI synthesis. Subject to Anthropic Privacy Policy.
- NCBI E-utilities: PubMed search and metadata. Queries go from your browser directly to NCBI.
- OpenAlex, NIH iCite, Europe PMC, RUG Journal Browser: public APIs queried directly from your browser.
5. Cookies
We use only essential cookies set by Firebase Authentication for keeping you signed in. No tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.
6. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to processing. To exercise these rights, email info@evidencescope.com.
- You can delete your account and all associated data by emailing us — we'll process the request within 30 days.
- You can export your usage data on request.
- You can withdraw consent at any time by signing out.
7. Data retention
Account and usage data is retained as long as your account is active. Deleted accounts are removed within 30 days. Anonymous aggregate stats may be retained indefinitely.
8. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Authentication is handled by Firebase with industry-standard encryption. We follow security best practices but cannot guarantee absolute security. Please report any security issues to info@evidencescope.com.
9. Changes
We may update this policy occasionally. Significant changes will be announced via the platform.
